Swedish Lips

The Swedish Lips™

A lip that gains height and definition without projecting forward.

The Swedish Lips technique builds height and definition without pushing the lip forward. It aims for a flat contour that sits back rather than projecting, a smooth surface, an even lower border on the upper lip, and lifted cupid’s bows.

The work is done with a blunt cannula rather than a needle, placing very small droplets of filler in precise planes around the muscle of the lip. The cannula matters for safety: it moves through tissue rather than cutting across it, which lowers the risk of vascular injury. The precision is what lets a real change in shape still look unforced.

I trained in the technique with Dr. Rebecka Gardell, the Swedish physician who developed it, at Gardell Academy in Stockholm. The method is built around control and reproducibility — it adapts to very different lip anatomies instead of applying one look to everyone.

Results may need to be built over more than one session, depending on baseline anatomy and goals. That is deliberate. It is how the shape stays even and the change stays believable.

Suitability is assessed individually. Lip treatment isn’t right for everyone, and I’ll tell you if I don’t think it will give you what you’re after.

Results

After photographs were taken immediately following treatment. That means they include some swelling, which will settle over three to seven days.
